August 29: Jennifer Bond, Vice President, International Affairs and Senior Advisor for Global Initiatives, US Council on Competitiveness.
Jennifer Sue Bond currently serves as Senior Advisor for International Affairs at the Council on Competitiveness. She helped to establish and develop the Council’s Global Initiative including forming a Global Advisory Committee of experts and thought leaders, developing a major Mexico initiative and helping to establish initiatives and leadership dialogues with Ireland, Brazil, the EU and Japan as well as an Advisory Task Force on China. As part of her activities in support of innovation in the United States, she also served as the Council’s project director in support of the new Professional Masters Programs nationally and is active in the PSM movement.
Ms Bond is the former Director of the Science & Engineering Indicators Program at the National Science Foundation, where she expanded greatly the international coverage of this flagship report of the National Science Board as well as indicators on human resources and output and input indicators for science technology and innovation. Ms Bond worked for Senator Joseph Lieberman as an expert on education policy for two years and previously worked as the Senior International Policy Analyst at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. She also has held research positions at MIT, the World Bank, the Board on Science, Technology and International Development at National Academy of Sciences, and was the Director of the Science Policy Unit at the Brazilian Space Research Institute. She currently serves on the Metrics Advisory Committee for AUTM—the Association of University Technology Managers and also serves on the Community Advisory Board of WISE—Women in Science and Engineering for the University of Arizona.
For over a decade she was a United States Representative to the OECD and the Vice Chair of OECD's National Experts on Science, Technology and Industry Indicators – NESTI. She also has worked with the EU on several issues including the Community Innovation Surveys, Public Attitudes Towards Science and Technology, and Mega-Science Issues. She has been on the Editorial Board of the APEC/PECC Science and Technology Profile and the Ibero- and InterAmerican Network on Science and Technology Indicators (RICYT) and served on the International Advisory Council for the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Bi-National Sustainability Laboratory and the Amity Foundation.
Ms. Bond holds a B.A. from Stanford University in International Affairs/Political Science and a Masters' Degree in Science, Technology and Public Policy from George Washington University. She has written and published extensively on science, technology and innovation policy topics. She speaks French, Spanish and Portuguese; has studied and worked in France and Brazil; and has traveled and lectured extensively in the United States, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia. She is active in the Stanford Alumni affairs, serves as Vice President of the Stanford Alumni Association of Southern Arizona, a member and Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences and the Cosmos Club in Washington D.C.

September 5: Hank Kenski
Professor Hank Kenski is Professor Emeritus at the University of Arizona where he taught in the political science department from 1968 to 1988 and in the communication department from 1988 to 2006. He still teaches a course a semester as an adjunct professor. He is currently the Southern Arizona Regional Director for U.S. Senator Jon Kyl. Professor Kenski has published one book, Saving the Hidden Treasure: The Evolution of Groung Water Policy and is a co-author of another book with Michael Pfau, Attack Politics: Strategy and Defense. He is also the author or co-author of over 70 articles in political science journals, communication journals and other social science journals on public opinion, voting behavior, and various public policies.

September 12: Joseph (Bob) Assenzo, Associate Professor, Civil Engineering & Environmental Sciences, University of Oklahoma, 1963–1966.; Ph.D. Executive Director, C-Path Educational Programs, and Founding Operating Board Member.
Bob Assenzo, PhD, served as Executive Director for the Drug Information Association (DIA) from 1996 to 2003. He was responsible for the oversight of all DIA offices and staff, provided direction to the DIA Board of Directors on strategic and operational planning, and supervised the overall operation of this international volunteer association. He previously had been President of the DIA Board of Directors. Under his leadership, membership more than doubled to 27,000 members working in the pharmaceutical and related health care industries. Prior to DIA, Dr. Assenzo served as Vice President, Regulatory Affairs & Project Management and Senior Advisor for Novo Nordisk in Copenhagen, Denmark. Before joining Novo Nordisk he served in capacities of increasing responsibility and leadership for The Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo, Michigan for 28 years, culminating his service as Executive Director, U.S. Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs, Medical Communications, and Pharmacovigilance. For this service, Dr. Assenzo received The Upjohn Company Distinguished Employee Award.
In addition to his current work as head of Education at C-Path, Dr. Assenzo serves as an Adjunct Professor of Biostatistics & Epidemiology at the University of Arizona and participates in its Clinical Research Scholars Program. Dr. Assenzo has a BS degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University, a Masters in Environmental Engineering from Harvard University and a PhD in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from the University of Oklahoma. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association. |
September 19: Satwant S. Khalsa, Vice President - Client Relationships,
Firstsource Solutions, Ltd.
Satwant Singh Khalsa, Vice President – Client Relationships has over 20 years of experience with demonstrated competencies in sales and client relationship management and a successful track record of building companies in the technology and outsourcing arena.
Satwant Singh was instrumental in founding FirstRing, Inc. in 1999. FirstRing was an early entry into the offshore call center arena with a Bangalore, India location. As Vice President of Sales for FirstRing, Satwant Singh was responsible for the acquisition and ongoing management of major clients such as American Express, Discover, and Providian Financial. Satwant Singh joined ICICI OneSource in August, 2003 when it acquired FirstRing. ICICI OneSource changed its name to Firstsource Solutions when it went public in 2007. At Firstsource Solutions, Satwant Singh has a similar role in working with Fortune 500 clients. Firstsource Solutions has now grown to over 18,000 employees with 36 centers in 5 countries. Mr. Khalsa is directly involved in projects serviced from India (Bangalore), the Philippines (Manila), Argentina (Buenos Aires), and the USA (Colorado Springs, CO and Amherst, NY).
Prior to FirstRing, Satwant Singh was Director of Sales for HealthScribe, a medical transcription company with production facilities in India. Satwant was instrumental in the growth of that company and for acquiring major hospitals such as the University of Michigan Health System, Eastern Maine Medical Center, Cayuga Medical Center, and Westchester Medical Center, to name a few.
Before joining HealthScribe, Satwant Singh was with Intersolv, a software company, where he was a member of the Inner Circle, and involved in sales to Fortune 500 clients.

September 26: Jim Kolbe, Former U.S. Representative (Ariz.)
Jim Kolbe currently serves as a Senior Transatlantic Fellow for the German Marshall Fund of the United States. He advises on trade matters as well as issues of effectiveness of US assistance to foreign countries, on US-EU relationships, and on migration and its relationship to development. He is co-chair of the Transatlantic Taskforce on Development with Gunilla Carlsson, the Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation. The Taskforce consists of experts from both sides of the Atlantic from governments, NGOs, foundations and corporations - it will make strategic recommendations on development for the new American administration as well as to European audiences. He also serves as an adjunct Professor in the College of Business at the University of Arizona, and serves on a part time basis as strategic consultant with McLarty Associates.
For 22 years, Jim Kolbe served in the United States House of Representatives, elected for eleven consecutive terms, from 1985 to 2007. He represented the Eighth (previously designated the Fifth) congressional district, comprising the southeastern part of Arizona with Tucson as the main population area.
While in Congress, Jim served for 20 years on the Appropriations Committee of the House of Representatives, responsible for deciding the allocation of the budget and the terms for spending appropriated funds. He was chairman of the Treasury, Post Office and Related Agencies subcommittee for four years, and for the last six years in Congress, he chaired the Foreign Operations, Export Financing and Related Agencies subcommittee.
Education:
Kolbe graduated from Northwestern University with a BA degree in Political Science and then from Stanford University with an MBA and a concentration in economics.
Honors:
He has received numerous awards and tributes, but notable among them is the George Marshall Award for Distinguished Service from the United States Agency for International Development and the Order of the Aztec from the President of Mexico.

October 3: Todd MacCallum, Senior Executive for IBM.
Todd MacCallum leads IBM’s efforts in Application Management services for the Travel & Transportation industry. He works with key IT and Business executives in leading T&T companies plan and execute their Global Sourcing strategies for Information Technology. Prior to IBM, Todd led the Media & Entertainment Industry practice for Infosys and led Application Outsourcing efforts on the West Coast for Accenture.
Todd has an MBA from the University of California, Irvine, with foci in Information Technology Management and International Business.

October 10: Surya Kant, President, TCS America.The lecture will be at 9 am on Friday, October 10th in McClelland Hall, Room 134.
Surya Kant, or Sury as he is popularly known, is the president for the North America operations of Tata Consultancy Services, a leading global IT services firm. In this capacity, Sury is responsible for overseeing and strengthening customer relationships and revenue in the U.S. and Canada. Sury also plays a key role in growing TCS’ business in new markets and expanding its range of technology and service offerings.
Sury has been with TCS for over 29 years, and has made significant contribution to the growth of the company and the software industry. Until 2005 he served as head of customer delivery in New Delhi, a role in which he managed many of TCS’ key customer relationships and grew the delivery centers in the region substantially.
Prior to this, he served as head of TCS’ operations in Japan and the United Kingdom, respectively. Sury started the company’s operations in Tokyo, Japan in 1987, and in the early nineties ran the TCS operations in the U.K.
In 1976, Sury received his Bachelors of Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Electronics from the Delhi College of Engineering and in 1978 he received his Masters in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Computer Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi, both at the top of his class.

October 24: Shanon Schockmel, Manager, Identity and Access Solutions, Dept. P3CF, IBM Certified Deployment Professional Tivoli Identity Manager v4.6
Mr. Schockmel manages the Identity and Access Security Solutions team in IBM Global Services. Shanon and his team of 100 individuals (working in the US, India, Argentina, and China) have deployed Identity and Access solutions for dozens of companies in the US, Canada, and Europe. They have experience in deploying projects in multiple sectors including Healthcare, Financial, Travel, Public, and Industrial. They also have experiences with numerous Identity and Access tools/solutions. Over the past five years his group has accumulated numerous lessons learned as well developed best practices in this space. Shanon was also the IBM Delivery Service Leader for Identity and Access from 2003 through 2004 as well as a member of the IBM Data Governance Council. Prior to working in Identity and Access Solutions, Shanon has worked in other areas of IBM including, Web Development, Storage Systems, and Healthcare Solutions. Mr. Schockmel has spoke at numerous internal IBM events including Software University.

November 7: Randy Guthrie
An Academic Developer Evangelist (ADE) for Microsoft Corporation, Randy provides academic and research support to faculty and students at top-tier schools in Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma & Kansas. Prior to his working at Microsoft, Randy was a professor at Cal Poly Pomona, where he taught software engineering, programming & MIS courses. Before his appointment at Cal Poly, Randy spent thirteen years working for the Northrop Grumman Corporation, where he was a contract manager on the Stealth Bomber project, a project manager, and a financial analyst. Randy earned his MBA in 1998 from the Peter F. Drucker School of Management, and a PhD in Information Science in 2007 from the School of Information Science and Technology at Claremont Graduate University. Randy’s dissertation studied how developer team bias software interfaces to particular types of users. Randy currently resides in Denver, CO with Jane his wife of 29 years, their daughter Molly and son Seth. |
