February 15th:

- Mark Hill, Manager, Strategic Tape Platforms, IBM Corporation

Mark Hill manages the Strategic Tape Platforms team in IBM Tape hardware development, responsible for product development of tape drives and libraries. He started his career at IBM writing code for the Reliability, Availability and Serviceability aspects of IBM tape drives. In his career so far, Mark published articles in Storage Management Solutions magazine and the IBM Technical Disclosure Bulletins, obtained 5 US patents, has been recognized with an Excellence award and an Outstanding Technical Achievement Award, and was selected for the IBM Race For Success event. He graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. E.E. from the University of Arizona. Mark has three wonderful children, who occupy most of his free time.

- Dr. Sai Pathasarathy, University of Arizona College of Medicine

Dr. Sairam “Sai” Parthasarathy is currently serving as the Chief of Research at the Southern Arizona VA HealthCare System (SAVAHCS) and is on faculty at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Sai is Associate Editor for the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine and serves on the research and programming committees for the American Thoracic Society and American Academy of Sleep Medicine. He serves on the Editorial board of Respiratory Care and has served as a consultant in sleep medicine to various healthcare organizations. Sai’s research focuses on sleepiness in physicians, and sleeplessness in patients with translation from animal models to bench-side therapeutics. Besides his active research and administrative roles, Sai is also a clinician who is board certified in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine and oversees two Sleep Disorders Centers as Medical Director. His research is currently funded by the American Lung Association, American Sleep Medicine Foundation, and the US Dept. of Veterans Affairs. He has been cited as a “promising minds” scholar by the American Lung Association.

February 22nd:

- Arijit Sengupta, CEO, BeyondCore, Inc.

Arijit Sengupta is the CEO of BeyondCore, Inc. BeyondCore's Software as a Service (SaaS) solution improves the quality of in-house and outsourced back-office business processes. BeyondCore has delivered 25% to 80% quality improvement in days to its Fortune 500, S&P 500, and Offshore 100 customers. Arijit previously worked at Oracle, Microsoft and General Motors. He was quoted by Thomas Friedman in The World Is Flat Release 3.0, in the New York Times, San Jose Mercury News, Business Week Online, LA Times, and other leading publications. Arijit has spoken at technical and business conferences in a dozen countries. Arijit was a member of the Joint Coordination Committee (10-member international supervisory / managing board) of the ebXML initiative. In 2003 he received the RosettaNet "Outstanding Leadership in the High Tech Industry" award. Arijit holds an MBA with Distinction from the Harvard Business School and Bachelors degrees with Distinction in Computer Science and Economics from Stanford University.

February 29th:

- Dr. Joseph Sussman, JR East Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Systems

Dr. Joseph M. Sussman is the JR East Professor (endowed by the East Japan Railway Company) in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Engineering Systems Division at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he has served as a faculty member for 40 years. He is the author of Introduction to Transportation Systems, a graduate text published in 2000, in use at a number of universities in the U.S. and abroad. It has been translated into Greek, Chinese and Spanish. His book Perspectives on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) was published in 2005. Sussman received the Roy W. Crum Distinguished Service Award from TRB, its highest honor, "for significant contributions to research" in 2001, and the CUTC Award for Distinguished Contribution to University Transportation Education and Research from the Council of University Transportation Centers in 2003. In 2002 ITS Massachusetts named its annual "Joseph M. Sussman Leadership Award" in his honor. He became a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2007.

March 14:

- Srinivas Uppaluri, VP and Global Head of Marketing, Infosys Inc.

Mr. Uppaluri is Vice President and Global Head-Marketing at Infosys. He is responsible for strategic marketing and overall brand building initiatives involving flagship programs, influencers and solutions marketing to establish Infosys as a global leader. Prior to Infosys, Srini spent around 17 years in management consulting with PWC and Anderson. He has advised clients in Europe and India on leveraging the potential of information technology. He has worked on wide rage of industries and has experience of working on various technologies.

March 28th:

- Professor Arnie Urken, Stevens Institute of Technology

Arnold B. Urken is a social scientist who did his undergraduate work at Oberlin College and completed masters and doctoral work at Rutgers University and New York University, respectively. His doctoral dissertation, a zero-sum interpretation of the Chinese Civil War, earned him the Founders' Day Award for distinctive scholarship. He was a research fellow at the London School of Economics, where he studied with Karl Popper and J.W.N. Watkins. He served with distinction in US Army intelligence as a strategic analyst and an instructor in strategic studies.

Dr. Urken has studied the evolution and operation of voting systems in a variety of organizational contexts. His research, funded by National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, Oxford University, the US Army, the American Association for the Humanities, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, includes historical, experimental, and analytic studies of voting systems from the Roman Republic to contemporary applications in computer-mediated networks. Dr. Urken patented error-resilient collective decision making techniques that enable reliable, predictable inferences to be made on the basis of incomplete and/or imperfect information. These techniques have broad applicability to network-centric problems in security, business, and information fusion. With Iain McLean, he co-edited Classics of Social Choice, the standard historical reference on scientific developments in voting theory. His publications have appeared in social science, computer science, legal, and engineering journals. Dr. Urken also co-founded the first national laboratory for testing election systems and closed it when the Federal Election Commission refused to require white box testing of software.

Dr. Urken recently retired from Stevens Institute of Technology, where he served as Director of the Social Science Program, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and collaborated on projects with colleagues in management, mathematics, engineering, and physics. He lives in Green Valley, where he is writing Discovering Voting Systems, a book on the evolution of the concept of a voting system in elections, engineering, and science. His hobbies include music and weight training. He speaks French and Chinese (Mandarin).

April 4th:

- P. Kevin Peppe, Don Newman, and Michael Keaton, Raytheon Missle Systems

P. Kevin Peppe is the Executive Director, Close in Weapons Systems at Raytheon Missle Systems. He is responsible for the Phalanx, SeaRAM, Centurion (Counter Rocket, Artillery and Mortar), Gun 21, Global CIWS Solutions, associated Mission Support and Performance Based Logistics programs, and design agent services.  New orders from both domestic and international customers over the last 24 months totaled nearly $1 billion. Prior to this assignment Kevin served as Director of the Precision Engagement Strategic Business Area.

Kevin joined Raytheon in 2003 following a distinguished career in the United States Navy.  As a Naval Officer he commanded the Nuclear Powered Attack Submarine USS ATLANTA (SSN 712) and was Commodore, Submarine Squadron EIGHT.  Staff positions included tours in the Pentagon on the Joint and OPNAV staffs, and as a member of the OSD Interagency Industrial Globalization team. While on active duty he also served as Principal Assistant to the Honorable Charles Robb, Former Governor and U.S. Senator from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

A distinguished graduate of the Naval War College, Kevin earned a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from University of Minnesota.  He has also earned masters degrees in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School and in National Security Strategy from the National War College.  In addition he holds a Juris Doctor Magna Cum Laude degree from the George Mason University School of Law.

 

Don Newman is the Program Director for Unmanned Systems at Raytheon Missile Systems, Tucson, Arizona.  He has held this position since November 2003 and is a 37-year veteran of the aerospace industry.

Newman joined Raytheon Missile Systems in 2001 as an Engineering Fellow leading various technical proposal teams.  He became Deputy Director for Special Systems in January 2002 where he was responsible for multiple advanced technology efforts in the fields of weapons, low observables, and electronic warfare.  Newman now leads the Advanced Programs activities for Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Netted Enabled Weapons.

Newman is a twenty year veteran of the United States Air Force where he held various flight test and acquisition positions, retiring in 1991 as the Director of Engineering for the B-2 Combined Test Force.  A graduate of the USAF Test Pilot School and Defense Acquisition University’s Program Managers Course, Newman was a major participant in the development and flight test of the A-10, F-16, F-117, F-22, and B-2, acquiring over 1500 hours in various fighter and other military aircraft.

After retiring from the Air Force, Newman worked for the Lockheed Martin Skunk Works in Palmdale, California.  At the Skunk Works, he headed the advanced development team working upgrades and improvements for the F-117, F-22, and F-35.

Newman has been a conference speaker on several aerospace topics and is an occasional guest lecturer at the University of Arizona.  He is life member of the Air Force Association, the Military Officers Association, and a member of the Society of Flight Test Engineers.

Newman is a Tucson native and holds a bachelor's degree in Engineering Mathematics from the University of Arizona.  He also has a master’s degree in Systems Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology.

 

Michael Keaton is a Senior Manager, Business Development for Raytheon Company responsible for operations of the Las Vegas, Nevada field office.

Mr. Keaton recently retired from the United States Air Force as a Command Pilot with over 3,200 hours of flying time primarily in the F-111, F-16, and the MQ-1 Predator.  His flight history includes being an Instructor and Evaluation check pilot in both the F-16 and Predator, overall Top Gun for Shaw Air Force Base, and combat flight lead of Suppression of Enemy Air Defense missions over Kosovo and Serbia.  His assignments include Program Manager for F-16 Block 50 Academics at Luke Air Force Base, Operations Officer for the 425th Fighter Squadron, and Commander of the 11th Reconnaissance Squadron at Indian Springs Air Force Auxiliary Field where he successfully turned the first operational Predator squadron into a Formal Training Unit.  Mr. Keaton also served as the Deputy Commander of the 57th Operations Group and then finally as the Deputy Commander of the 57th Adversary Tactics Group at Nellis Air Force Base.

 

April 11th:

- Steve Corel and Neeraj Goenka, Deloitte & Touche LLP

Steve is a Senior Manager in our Internal Audit Services practice. Steve’s experience includes launching and enhancing Internal Audit functions in several multinational companies, leading risk assessments and providing controls advice in areas such as mergers and acquisitions and new business/subsidiary set-up. Steve has also led several large Sarbanes-Oxley compliance projects in the manufacturing, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. Prior to joining Deloitte & Touche, Steve worked at Arthur Andersen in the Business Process Risk Consulting Practice.

Steve graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) as well as the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).

 

Neeraj is a Senior Consultant in our Phoenix Internal Audit Services practice. Neeraj’s experience includes performing internal audits and risk assessment for clients in manufacturing, healthcare and TMT industries. Neeraj has also served in various Sarbanes-Oxley readiness and testing projects.

Prior to joining Deloitte & Touche, Neeraj worked at a healthcare facility as Internal Auditor and Financial Analyst.

Neeraj graduated from Delhi University with a Bachelor of Commerce and Bentley College with a Master of Business Administration in Financial Systems. He is a Certified Internal Auditor and a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).

 

April 18th:

- Randy Guthrie, Microsoft

An Academic Developer Evangelist (ADE) for Microsoft Corporation, Randy provides academic and research support to faculty and students at top-tier schools in Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma & Kansas. Prior to his working at Microsoft, Randy was a professor at Cal Poly Pomona, where he taught software engineering, programming & MIS courses. Before his appointment at Cal Poly, Randy spent thirteen years working for the Northrop Grumman Corporation, where he was a contract manager on the Stealth Bomber project, a project manager, and a financial analyst. Randy earned his MBA in 1998 from the Peter F. Drucker School of Management, and a PhD in Information Science in 2007 from the School of Information Science and Technology at Claremont Graduate University. Randy’s dissertation studied how developer team bias software interfaces to particular types of users. Randy currently resides in Denver, CO with Jane his wife of 29 years, their daughter Molly and son Seth. His newest computer is a Dell Latitude 620 core dual with two 2.4GHZ processors, 4GB of RAM and 120GB Hard Drive. The operating system is 64-bit Windows Vista Ultimate.
